The South Prairie to Orting segment is the third section in the trail to Buckley.  Three miles of this segment were constructed off the historical railroad alignment, requiring innovative solutions for storm water management for these segments.  Porous asphalt pavement was chosen for the trail surface.  This asphalt design allows storm water to pass directly through the pavement and infiltrate the soil below.  Zero impact design techniques, such as porous asphalt pavement, can be part of the solution for habitat degradation in watersheds where ESA-listed fish species exist.
